Programme for 2015
The first meeting, on 3 February, is a members' night. This date is the anniversary of the 1931 Napier earthquake, so members are invited to bring along something relating to earthquakes or other natural disasters. Other members' nights later in the year include, on 6 October, the topic of Exploration, as on this day, in 1769, young Nick on board Cook's Endeavour, spotted New Zealand for the first time. The members' night on 17 November is an invitation to members to bring along material relating to exhibitions, local, national or international, philatelic or otherwise.
The Keith Griffiths Memorial Lecture this year has Robert Lyon (who is our webmaster) coming up from Wellington to speak about the advertising stamps of the 1890s. On 3 November we are having a joint meeting with the Royal Philatelic Society of New Zealand, and Lindsay Chitty will be the speaker.
Alphabet evenings are scheduled for 7 April and 2 June.
Red Dot Sale
The first red dot sale for 2015 will be at the Mt Albert Senior Citizen's Hall on Saturday 28 February. Helpful hints on preparing your lotting sheets are given elsewhere in this newsletter in the piece by Bob Edwards. Please read it before submitting your lotting sheet.
Our annual exhibition this year (6-7 June) will be a competitive exhibition. The competition will be known as NIPEX (North Island Philatelic Exhibition). It replaces NORTHPEX, which was run by the Whangarei Philatelic Society. Clubs from all over the North Island are invited to participate. There is no entry fee. Entries will be either 8 or 16 pages. There are 8 classes, including a Youth class for any exhibitor under the age of 20 on 1 January 2015.
We are hoping for a good level of participation from our own members.
